Bahuvachana Trust is a non-profit charitable trust working in the fields of literature, culture, and theatre. Apart from literary events and fellowships, the Trust publishes Bahuvachana Sahitya Vimarshe, a Kannada literary magazine dedicated to book reviews. It also runs a publishing house, Bahuvachana Prakashana, focused on translating works from Indian languages into Kannada.
Hyphen is Bahuvachana’s most ambitious project: an effort to build an ecosystem for translating literature from Indian languages into English and making it accessible to readers around the world. At its heart is a print literary journal, complemented by an extensive website and a publishing house, all dedicated to translations from Indian languages into English. There has been no previous effort on this scale to present India’s diverse literary traditions within a unified global framework.

M. S. Sriram is Professor of Public Policy at IIM Bangalore. Previously, he held the ICICI Bank Lalita D. Gupte Chair in Microfinance at the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. He is a graduate of the Institute of Rural Management, Anand and completed his doctoral studies at the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore. Sriram is also a Kannada writer. He has authored five works of fiction and four collections of essays. He has won the Karnataka Sahitya Akademi Award twice for his works. He has also translated the autobiography of Dr. Y. V. Reddy from Telugu into Kannada.
C. Suresh Kumar is Senior Manager – Management Services at the India Foundation for the Arts where he oversees Finance, Compliance, Accounts, and Investments. He has previously worked with a major corporate company and an export-oriented organisation in the areas of Finance and Human Resources. He is also a Trustee of Toto Funds the Arts, an organisation dedicated to promoting young talent in India in the fields of the arts, photography, creative writing, and film. Suresh holds a postgraduate degree in Commerce. He enjoys watching sports, listening to music, and is passionate about helping those in need. He lives in Bangalore.
Vivek Shanbhag writes in Kannada and has authored 13 books. He has edited two anthologies, including one in English, and was the founding editor of the literary journal “Desha Kaala.” His acclaimed novel “Ghachar Ghochar” has been translated into 20 languages and was named one of the year's top ten books by The New York Times and The Guardian, besides being shortlisted for the LA Times Book Prize. He co-translated U. R. Ananthamurthy’s “Hindutva or Hind Swaraj” into English. He is a Visiting Professor of Creative Writing at Ashoka University. Trained as an engineer, Vivek lives in Bangalore.
