A space for multilingual imagination.
At Jain University, Hyphen was pleasantly surprised to be met with a proficiently multilingual batch of students. Apart from languages we already encountered in previous universities, we also found students who spoke Assamese, Gujarathi, Marawadi, Odiya, Chattisghadi and even one student from Zambia who spoke in his native tongue. While conversations on mother tongue generated excitement in the classroom, ‘Reading the Author’ activity was also one that students found to be a novel, yet exciting one. This invited a lot of intuitive thinking and a diverse set of responses. The session encouraged students to think of their own relationships with various languages and the overall relationship language shares with socio-cultural structures.
